Minutos de pánico se vivieron en el Cosmódromo de Baikonur Kazajstán, cuando dos minutos después de haber despegado la nave Soyuz MS-10 reportó una falla en la separación de los cohetes propulsores por lo que “entró en un modo de reingreso balístico, según lo reportaron medios rusos y fue confirmado por la NASA.
En la nave viajaban el cosmonauta Alexéi Ovchinin y el astronauta de la NASA Nick Hague, con quienes nunca se perdió contacto y fueron rescatados en “buenas condiciones” a unos 20 kilómetros al este de Dzhezkazgan, Kazajstán.
La misión del Soyuz MS-10 indicaba que tenía que dar cuatro vueltas a la Tierra antes de acoplarse (seis horas después) a la Estación Espacial Internacional y dejar a sus pasajeros. El incidente ha levantado sospechas, dado que Ovchinin y Prokópiev tenían además previsto una caminata espacial el próximo 15 de noviembre, para investigar las posibles causas de un agujero detectado en la Soyuz Ms-09, que produjo una fuga de aire en la ISS. Rusia ha insistido que pudo ser provocada desde el interior.
